Hatters Defeat Bears 8-2 But Miss Playoffs

The Danbury Mad Hatters played one of their best games last night as they defeated the Hudson Valley Bears 8-2.

Matt Cosmos led the Hatters in scoring with two goals and three assists for five points. Obi Aduba and Erik Kent had two goals and two assists each with Dan Hickman and Stephen Schofield both tallying a goal each as well.

Derek MacIntyre and Jeff Hill split time but combined to stop 24 of 26 Hudson Valley shots. Bears goaltenders Peter Maro and Chris Polino combined to stop 34 of 42 shots.

However, despite the big win, the Jersey Rockhoppers clinched the second and final playoff spot in the EPHL championship series where they will play the Brooklyn Aces. Even if Danbury wins their last two games, the Rockhoppers own the tie breaker over Danbury according to the head to head records for the season.

The Mad Hatters will then be playing for pride tonight at 5:30 PM when they visit the Jersey Rockhoppers. It was a disappointing end result to not make the playoffs but ending the season on a high note with two more wins would be very good for the team going into next season.

Danbury needs to take advantage of their 3 games in hand on the Jersey Rockhoppers, who they are now 8 points behind. Every game becomes more important as the season starts to come into the home stretch.

Hatters Return To Action Against Jersey at 7PM

Despite a tough loss this past Sunday at the Brooklyn Aces, the Hatters had a very good weekend considering they played four games in four days as they went 3-1 on the weekend. As the season comes down to the home stretch the Danbury Mad Hatters and the Jersey Rockhoppers will be fighting each other for second place in the EPHL and slowly continue their quest to catch the Brooklyn Aces.

The Hatters currently sit six points behind the Rockhoppers but have two games in hand. With their next two games against the Rockhoppers the Mad Hatters will be looking to take advantage of these head to head matchups.

Erik Kent leads the Danbury Mad Hatters in scoring with 19 goals and 18 assits for 37 points. Not far behind are Obi Aduba and Dan Hickman with 32 and 30 points respectively. For Jersey Chris Ferazzoli leads the team with 20 goals and 36 assists for 56 points on the year.

Hatters Beat Aces 4-2...Continue in Hudson Valley

The Danbury Mad Hatters carried the momentum of Thursday night's win into tonight as they defeated the top ranked Brooklyn Aces 4-2 in front of almost 900 fans at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Drew Madeiros led all Mad Hatters in scoring with a goal and two assists while Obi Aduba had a goal and an assist. Devin Rask and Heath Gordon both scored shorthanded goals to help the Hatters finish off the Aces. CJ Tozzo and Kyle McCullough scored for the Aces but it wasn't enough as their high powered offense was shut down.

Derek MacIntyre was key in the victory stopping 37 of 39 shots faced and played one of his best of the year. Miroslav Recicar stopped 17 of 21 shots allowing all four goals.

This win is big but the weekend for the Hatters is just starting as tonight they head to the Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, NY to take on the Hudson Valley Bears.

The last game between the two was this past Friday night when the Hatters won by a score of 6-1. Danbury will be looking to use that game and last night's game as momentum on the road.

The Bears are coming off a 9-4 loss in Jersey last night. Despite only two wins this season, they are never an easy game especially when they are playing Danbury as the rivalry between the two teams always produces fireworks.

The next Mad Hatters home game is Thursday February 12th at 7 PM as they welcome the Jersey Rockhoppers to the Danbury Ice Arena. Tickets are available at the Danbury Ice Arena Box Office, through the ticket link above, or by calling (203) 885 1128 ext. 8207.

Post Game 2/5/09 - Friday, February 06, 2009

Hatters Top Bears 8-1...Host Aces Tonight

Last night, the Danbury Mad Hatters began their four consecutive days of hockey by welcoming the Hudson Valley Bears to the Danbury Ice Arena. The rest they had gained with a week off showed as they scored 8 goals on the Bears.

Erik Kent continues to lead the team offensively as he recorded 2 goals and 2 assists with Obi Aduba recording three points, a goal and 2 assists. Their power play got going as it struck three times to help the Hatters continue their winning streak over the Bears which is now up to seven consecutive games.

Scott Estey scored the only goal for the Bears.

Derek MacIntyre stopped 26 of 27 shots while Len DiCostanzo and Chris Polino split time to stop 36 of 44 shots faced.

Tonight the Hatters look to get on a roll as the Brooklyn Aces come to visit the DIA. Brooklyn is coming off a rare 7-5 loss to the Jersey Rockhoppers and will certainly be looking to get back to their winning ways.

However coming off a win and being well rested the Mad Hatters will need to come out strong. Their rivalry with the Aces has turned into an explosive matchup that always results in a hard fought game. With the season beginning to come into the home stretch these games will increase in importance as much as they increase in intensity.

Kyle McCullough leads the Aces in scoring with 16 goals and 42 assists for 58 points. There is no doubt that the Hatters will have to shut him and the rest of the high powered Aces offense to come out on top.

The game is a 7:30 PM start at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, CT. Tickets are available at the Danbury Ice Arena Box Office, at the ticket link above, or by calling (203) 885-1128 ext. 8207.

Post Game Wrap Up 1/29/09 - Friday, January 30, 2009

Hatters Drop Tough Loss to Jersey 7-5

On Thursday night, the Danbury Mad Hatters took on the Jersey Rockhoppers in a pivotal match that would determine who would own second place in the EPHL standings.

Despite having beaten the Aces on Sunday, the Hatters could not use the momentum gained to defeat Jersey as they lost 7-5 to the Rockhoppers. While the Hatters did come back from a two goal deficit in the second period, they could not complete the comeback in the third.

Erik Kent, last week's EPHL player of the week, had a goal and two assists for the Hatters. Hank Carisio, Dan Hickman, and Brian Hannafin all had a goal and an assist each.

However it wasn't enough as the Rockhoppers put 7 up on the scoreboard, led by Chris Ferazzoli who had two goals and an assits. Teammate Kyle Bozoian had four assists on the night. Tom Boudreau had a goal and two assists helping the Rockhoppers to post another big night of offense.

The next Danbury Mad Hatters game is Thursday February 5th at home against the Hudson Valley Bears at 7 PM. Tickets are still available through the link at the top, at the Danbury Ice Arena Box Office, or by calling 203-885-1128 ext. 8207.

Hatters Faceoff With Jersey in Showdown for Second Place

The Danbury Mad Hatters will continue their quest to make the playoffs tonight at 7 PM as they host the Jersey Rockhoppers, marking the beginning of the second half where every point counts. They come into tonight's game just two points behind the Rockhoppers for second place.

The Hatters are coming off a 5-4 shootout win over the Brooklyn Aces this past Sunday where they went on the road and grabbed two very valuable points. They will be looking to carry momentum over from that game into tonight where the Hatters need to establish a physical presence and rely on their main producers to light up the scoreboard. Last week's EPHL player of the week, Erik Kent, has 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points to lead the Hatters.

Jersey is coming off a 10-2 win over the Hudson Valley Bears last Saturday. They are led by Chris Ferazzoli who leads the team with 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points, good for third in the EPHL.

Danbury is hot with a 7-3 record in their last 10 games including a 5-1 record in their last 6 home games. They will look to feed off the crowd and vault themselves into second place in the EPHL.

The game is a 7 PM start at the Danbury Ice Arena. Tickets are available at the Danbury Ice Arena Box Office, at 203-885-1128 ext. 8207, or by clicking the ticket link at the top of the page.

 MAD HATTERS STRONG
THIRD PERIOD TOPPLES
ROCKHOPPERS

The Danbury Mad Hatters opened up for three consecutive third period goals to bring down the Rockhoppers 4-3 in front of 902 at the Danbury Ice Arena on Sunday evening. It was the Mad Hatters first win of 2009.

The Mad Hatters opened up the scoring once again when Obi Aduba sent home his eighth goal of the season making it 1-0 Mad Hatters. The Rockhoppers would tie it at 1-1 after 2 periods, but that's when the Mad Hatters exploded for 3 consecutive goals in just under 10 minutes. Mykul Haun, Obi Aduba, again, and Igor Karlov each scored in the third period to put the Mad Hatters up 4-1. The Rockhoppers made an effort to come back by scoring twice, but the Mad Hatters defense and goaltending stood up to that challenge to take their 3 win of the season over the Rockhoppers.

The win puts the Mad Hatters back at .500, and, most importantly, 3 points out of second place.

Derek MacIntyre stopped 21 of 24 shots in his second consecutive win over the Rockhoppers, and the win also puts him at 7-5-1 on the year. His .898 save percentage puts him second in the EPHL in that category, and with one more victory he will be tied for second in the EPHL in overall victories.

The Mad Hatters will be back at the DIA this Friday night at 7:30 pm to take on their arch-rivals, the first place Brooklyn Aces.
